Climate change is transforming our planet faster than anyone predicted

We humans are the cause, but at the same time the only ones who can solve the crisis.

Bhutan has made one of the world’s most far-reaching climate promises, to forever remain carbon neutral, and its forests helps keep the world’s climate change at bay by absorbing carbon dioxide. But climate change brutally impacts Bhutan. Here among the water towers of Asia, catastrophic floods caused by climate change have already washed away villages, killed people and wreaked havoc on livelihoods and wildlife. Years ago, a glacial lake broke loose and flooded the country. Now, Bhutan has to contend with the looming danger of 2,700 glacial lakes that did not exist 20 years ago because global warming is melting Himalayan glaciers.

Similarly, more of these glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) will occur across the world as climate change continues. It is also predicted that climate change could result in a loss of up to 30 percent of the snow leopard habitat in the Himalayas.

Hence, the Snowman Race is an important opportunity to mobilise efforts towards climate action.

        All funds donated will be processed by the Bhutan Friendship Foundation, a 501(c) corporation that is exempt from income taxes.

        Established in 1989 the foundation has helped raise funds for a variety of projects in Bhutan including playing a key role in the restoration of the famous 700-year-old Gangtey Monastery. As is the standard norm of the Bhutan Friendship Foundation 100% of all donations received will go directly to the Snowman Race.
